(please read the summary for more information about the river)
The challenges of lighting the retail section of the store were narrowed down to the following criteria:
- Track lighting system with flexible connectors
(to allow for following the curving river)
- A 100watt CMH Fixture with Very Narrow Spot beam
(for accenting the "river of color")
- A 70watt CMH Fixture with Narrow Spot beam
(for merchandise lighting)
- Matching housings and re-lamping method for both fixtures
- Method of preventing mis-lamping
- Integral accessory holder
(to provide multiple beam spreads from one lamp)
- lamps must be changed without removing accessories
- Integral 6" snoot
(must not be removable and must be secured to fixture)
We evaluated several ideas, finally concluding that there were no "off the shelf" fixtures available that could meet the project requirements. We started working with Times Square Lighting and ultimately produced a pair of fixtures that were exactly right for the store.
To prevent mis-lamping one fixture uses a 100watt ED17 lamp with a very narrow spot reflector and the other uses a narrow spot 70watt Par30.
The accessory holder and snoot were merged into a hinged snoot with an internal accessory stop in the middle. This allows the color and lenses to be "back loaded" and secured with a tension ring. The snoots were also made a larger diameter to maximize the light output, while still providing the shielding and beam control needed.
Both fixtures have side-mounted ballasts and are fitted with a track adaptor.
